SAMPLE TASK 2 (ESSAY) : CHILDREN AND TELEVISION

Topic: Children can learn more efficiently by watching television


Television is a medium of information shown by audio-visual. It gives information such as news, film, entertainment, advertisemen, and also education. Some people say that children can learn more efficiently by watching television. However, this is difficult to be agreed because of two reasons, which are addiction and education.



The first reason is addiction. It is undeniable true that television can be aducative for children, so that parents will encourage their children to watch television. However, this can make children be addicted television program. This may be due to children becoming comfortable when watching television, because they do not need to do anything in front of the screen. Then, they become lazy to do something else after more than one hour watching television. Furthermore, when children watching television, it show advertisement about other program for children, for instance cartoon or film with actors or actrees they like, and this make children want to watch television again and again. Therefore, children cannot learn more efficiently by watching television.

The second reason is education. Although television represent some educative program, it also show uneducative program.  However, uneducative program shown by television is more than educative program. Of course, it is not good for children, even though it is considered just as entertainment for them. For example, a television show special program for children one hour per day, other program will be shown 23 hours per day. Moreover, not all special programs for children are educative. For example, cartoon that tell about war or fighting between two persons or involve others. Children will watch how they are fighting, killing others or hit. Then, they will practice this with their friends in school. So that, children will not get education or learning efficiently, but this is opposite with education.

In conclusion, television can be a medium for education, but not all. Only a few benefits from television regarding education for children, and so many negative influences attacking children. Therefore, parents and teachers should be wisely to encourage children to watch television.
